Liquor & Gaming NSW is responsible for the regulation of liquor, wagering, gaming and registered clubs in NSW. It sits within the Liquor, Gaming & Emergency Management Division of the NSW Department of Justice.
The agency's responsibilities include compliance, enforcement and licensing functions, as well as the provision of policy advice, program evaluation and executive support to the NSW Government.
Liquor & Gaming NSW was created on 1 February 2016, taking on most of the responsibilities performed by two former agencies, the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and the Independent, Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA).
The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority Board was retained as an independent statutory decision maker, while transferring administrative and processing functions to Liquor & Gaming NSW. Liquor & Gaming NSW provides administrative, review and secretariat support to Board.
